Official opening
Ertech is thrilled to announce the completion and grand opening of a transformative infrastructure project in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Minister for Small Business Jackie Jarvis officially opened the rejuvenated St. Barbara’s Square, which coincided with a community celebration marking the unveiling of the transformed space, now a vibrant hub for families, locals, businesses, and tourists alike.
The project, which received $8 million in funding from the State Government for the Economic Transformation of Kalgoorlie City Centre, with a matching contribution from the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, has revitalised the heart of Kalgoorlie. The centrepiece of the redevelopment, St. Barbara’s Square, now boasts an array of exciting new features inspired by the Goldfields landscape. Among the highlights are:
- A water play area.
- A bespoke playground.
- Event spaces.
- Entertainment areas.
- Alfresco dining spots.
- Gardens.
- Accessible toilet facilities.
The square’s design pays homage to Kalgoorlie’s rich history. Its climbing structure is shaped like a silky pear, representing the Karlkurla fruit from which the city’s name originates.
About the Project
In the months leading up to the project’s construction commencement, Ertech worked closely with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, focusing on optimising the scope of the infrastructure upgrade as well as promoting local and Indigenous community participation. As is typical in such redevelopment projects, the engagement and management of subcontractors and suppliers play a pivotal role in the project’s success. We are pleased to have exceeded the project’s local and Indigenous spending targets, which we can attribute to the project’s community-focused leadership, which overcame several post-COVID industry challenges to exceed expectations.
For over four decades, Ertech has been a market leader in creating and upgrading community infrastructure in urban and regional locations. It always gives us great satisfaction to contribute towards the development of a precinct that the community can benefit from for many years to come.
