CCF Earth Awards 2011
For the third year in succession Ertech has won a Civil Contractors Federation (WA) Earth Award. This year Ertech secured the Category 2 ($1m to $5m) award for the Perth Cultural Centre Redevelopment project.
The Perth Cultural Centre Redevelopment project, delivered for the East Perth Redevelopment Authority, included civil and electrical infrastructure upgrades and landscaping.
The project was tendered and awarded on conceptual drawings and preliminary design only, which required a high level of collaboration to ensure the project was delivered within the Government’s budget and time frame.
A key project constraint was the location of the site and interface with the public and other stakeholders. During construction Ertech minimised disruption to major pedestrian thoroughfares to the Perth City Train Station and maintained public and delivery service access to Perth’s major cultural institutions including the Art Gallery, State Museum, State Library and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA).
In addition to pedestrians and cultural institutions, there were a significant number of events that took place in the vicinity of the site during construction. Careful planning was required to ensure safe access to the area and that no hazards were present while Ertech was not working on site. Events included the Laneways Festival which attracts thousands of patrons, as well as the weekend markets.
Management of dust, noise and vibration during construction needed to be well in excess of normal guidelines due to the nature and location of the site. Careful consideration needed to be given to displays in the cultural institutions as well as public enjoyment of the precinct.
The project will now go on to be judged nationally in the Gold Coast in October.
